Page 8 – Fire For Effect!
Whew! Under the wire, but I finished it. And with this page, we are officially as far into a comic book as I normally get. Usually, I tend to get bored with a project right around page eight, or life gets in the way, or whatever other excuse I may use. But this time, I feel like I’m just hitting my stride. So there may be hope for me yet!
I changed around the action on this one mainly due to the suggestion of a very knowledgeable friend of mine in the Department of Defense (he’s deployed overseas at the moment so I’ll err on the side of caution and not say any more). Briefly, as a matter of military versimilitude, he advised me that infantry ambushing a force of armored vehicles would likely NOT open fire first unless they had to, and would instead take up positions and then have their own tanks open fire. Whatever the case, it was just as well, as this page is a spread with the next one, and setting this one up as I did allowed me to build tension a little, and end the two page spread on a more dramatic note than would otherwise have been possible.
Unfortunately, you will have to wait an extra week to see that dramatic ending, as I am going on vacation this week. This will be my first vacation in a year and a half, and let me tell you, I’m more than ready for it. However, a colleague of mine from the Flight Forums, Joost Haakman, has generously offered to draw a bit of guest art to span the gap, so tune in at the regular time to see it! I make it a habit in these instances not to ask in advance what the piece will be, and Joost has a very different art style from my own, so I’m just as excited to see his take on 6-Commando as everyone else! If Joost is true to form, though, it’ll be terriffic, so I’m looking forward to it! And also, do check out his work at his own site, which you can find here.
Anyhow, I’m leaving mid-week for six lovely days in the mountains. So I’ll see you in two weeks for another page!
